“There’s nothing like a good excuse!”

Then the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.
Genesis 3:12

“There’s nothing like a good excuse!”
I still remember this saying that a teacher in my school days liked to use when someone wanted to conceal or minimise some omission or mistake. He was a good judge of character, and each of us knew that he had seen through the excuse.

Today’s Bible verse shows us that excuses are as old as mankind. Adam had disobeyed God and eaten of the forbidden fruit. When confronted by God, he didn’t say yes or no, but instead tried in all seriousness to blame God Himself with an excuse. He said to Him, “The woman whom You gave me, she gave me ...”. It’s still the same today: we prefer to talk first about someone else’s guilt and in the end only admit what is indisputable anyway. Adam, too, finally admits, “and I ate.”

God, who created everything, knows man better than any psychologist. We are, after all, His creatures. But God also knows the remedy for all guilt. At that time, sacrificial animals had to give their lives so that the first human couple could be clothed with garments of skin. In this way, God made sure that they no longer had to be ashamed and that they had new hope.

God’s greatest gift, however, is His Son, Jesus Christ. He sent Him into the world and gave Him as “the Lamb of God” to be the sacrifice for our guilt. Today, through faith in Him, anyone who wants to can find forgiveness. God is waiting for us to confess our sins to Him in prayer. I would like to encourage you to no longer take refuge in excuses to cover your guilt.

Today’s reading: Esther 9:11-22 · Proverbs 21:21-31

My times are in Your hand'Psalms 31:15 NKJV

The Psalm writes, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, "You are my God." My times are in your hand' (vv. 14-15 NKJV). As you walk with God you'll find that you spend more time waiting than you do receiving. And when you receive what you're waiting for, then...More

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
