December 11, 2015 Today's reading: 1 John 4 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. Luke 14:16-18 The great supper This parable that Jesus gave the Jews for an example is our topic today. God invites everyone to his feast. Nobody is excluded. All should attend the feast arranged to honour His Son Jesus Christ. God rejoices over everyone who accepts. "Everything is ready." This is the result of Christ adorning on the cross. So God can offer the lost the forgiveness of sins, eternal salvation and fellowship with Himself. The host's servant visited those invited to inform them that all was ready so they should come to the feast. Even today God's invitation goes out through His servants. But how do people react to God's invitation? Then, all sorts of excuses were made. One had bought a field, another an ox, a third had just married. It is no different today. Many consider their earthly possession more important than God. Others are hindered by their career or other social or family affairs. How do we ourselves answer God's invitation? Does something in our life keep us from accepting His kind invitation? Do we reject it with some trite excuses? Just how can anyone wish to spend eternity away from God and the joy of heaven? |

Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More |
