Putgarten or Puttgarden?

Thomas said to Him, Lord, … how can we know the way? Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life.
John 14:5–6

Putgarten or Puttgarden?
A woman from Germany wanted to drive to Denmark via Fehmarn with her children. But instead of typing the name of the ferry port of Puttgarden (Fehmarn) into her navigation device, she entered “Putgarten” and ended up in a small town on the island of Rügen. From there, there was no way to continue the journey.

A truck driver from the Czech Republic, on the other hand, had programmed everything correctly when he was travelling in the southwest of England in the autumn of 2007. But at some point, the GPS system led him onto a lonely country road overgrown with scrub. He finally got stuck on a bend. The phenomenon was well known to the inhabitants of the next village: time and again, GPS systems gave this treacherous shortcut between two national highways as the optimal route.

In our lives, we also frequently face the questions:

o What destination do we want to reach?
o Which path will lead us there?
o Which guide can we entrust ourselves to?

Of utmost importance are these questions – and the answers – when it comes to our destination for eternity. In this verse, Jesus Christ makes the exclusive claim that He knows the way and the truth for us, indeed that He Himself is the way and the truth.

Is this claim of Jesus justified, and can we really trust Him? In order to determine this, we need not and must not wait until we have arrived in the hereafter. Whoever commits himself to Christ and His Word will get certainty even now! Everyone can prove it for himself!

Today’s reading: 2 Kings 17:19-41 · 1 John 4:1-6

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More
