What do a burn injury, a fall from scaffolding, a...

Is there no balm … , is there no physician there? Why then is there no recovery?
Jeremiah 8:22

What do a burn injury, a fall from scaffolding, a stroke, a bad traffic accident and a medication overdose have in common?

They are all emergencies – emergencies that occur in one place, perhaps within a few hours, and for which the emergency telephone number is dialled. Day or night, man, woman or child, old or young: when this number is dialled, an ambulance with experienced paramedics and life-saving equipment sets off. For all these emergencies, as different as they are, there is this common emergency number.

There is also a “central call number” with God! God says, “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me”, and, “I am the Lord who heals you” (Psalm 50:15; Exodus 15:26).

Whoever calls upon Him because he has come into “distress of soul” also experiences life-saving measures:

He is forgiven and cleansed from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
He is no longer lost, but receives new, eternal life (John 3:16).
He receives a new pure heart as well as a new spirit (Psalm 51:12; Ezekiel 36:26).

But despite all the similarities, there is also a serious difference. The above-mentioned number may only be dialled in emergencies – but to God every person can turn at any time and in any situation. God is always immediately available and He takes care of everyone who calls on Him! Whether in joy or sorrow, in loneliness or grief: everyone may come, talk to Him and pour out their heart before Him.

Therefore, call Him! And call Him now!

Today’s reading: Deuteronomy 32:15-33 · Ephesians 2:1-10

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, but has manifested in its own due season His word.
(Titus 1:2-3)
