Flee from God?

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
Psalm 139:7-8

Flee from God?
No man can run away from God. Nevertheless, many try. Here is a story from the Bible: The godless King Ahab was told by a prophet of God that he would not return alive from war. But Ahab had an idea to escape his fate - or so he hoped. Since kings and army commanders were particularly targeted in such battles at that time, he went into battle in the uniform of an ordinary soldier - in order to remain unrecognised.

His ruse caused confusion in the enemy army. But when one man drew his bow and shot at random, the arrow hit the disguised king right between two pieces of armour: an arrow from God's quiver! Thus, Ahab died on the evening of that day, just as the Lord had foretold.

This serious scene shows impressively that man cannot escape God. Therefore, it is much better to face the living God, disclose our corrupt life before Him and confess our guilt to Him. Then we will have a wonderful experience: God will not condemn us but will forgive us all our wrongs. He can do this because His Son, Jesus Christ, laid down His life as a sacrifice for our sins. When we believe in the Saviour and His work on the cross, God gives us eternal life.

Now we are safe forever and able to consciously enjoy his nearness.

Today's reading: Numbers 35:16-34, Matthew 18:15-20
