The living bridge

Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6

The living bridge
A fire broke out in a high-rise building in Brooklyn, New York. The building was about to be completed. Because the fire spread so quickly, the tradesmen could only save themselves by climbing to the top floor.

The fire brigade approached and the longest ladder was driven out. But there was a nasty surprise. The firefighter who was standing at the top of the ladder saw it first: the ladder was too short. It was only a few rungs too short, but it meant the men up there couldn't be rescued. Then the firefighter did something unexpected. He bravely climbed the last rung, only to fall with his arms holding the front of the parapet. Then he shouted to the tradesmen, "Come, save yourselves across my back!"

The eight men dared to do it and descended the living bridge to the ladder. So, everyone was saved. But the brave fireman couldn't make the descent himself and lost his life.

This is what God has done. He saw that all men are lost sinners facing damnation. Not a single "ladder" of men's own efforts was long enough to save them from it. Then God sent His Son to the earth. Jesus Christ gave His life on the cross to make a way of salvation for men. Those who entrust themselves to the Redeemer cross this "living bridge". They escape from divine judgment and come into a right relationship with God.

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
