Grandpa’s eyes

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good.
Psalm 34:8

Grandpa’s eyes
Little Melanie is always delighted when she can roam the fields and woods with her grandfather. Each time he is able to show her something new from nature. This is how she gets to know many of the wonders of God’s creation.

When she comes home once again from a walk with her grandfather, she says to her mother: “How happy I would be if I had Grandpa’s eyes. He sees so much more than I do!” – “I don’t understand you, Melanie,” her mother replies. “Only yesterday your grandfather was complaining that his eyes were so bad, he couldn’t read anything without his glasses.”

“Yes, mother, but when we are outside together, Grandpa claims he can see the goodness of God in everything.” – “My dear girl, what you are missing is not your grandfather’s eyes, but your grandfather’s heart. Ask God to put reverence for Him and an eye for His love in your heart. Then you too will see things as your grandfather does.”

If we have such “hearts” and “eyes”, we too will see the evidence of God’s goodness around us. In the situations of everyday life, we experience the way He desires our good every day. Isn’t this a reason to thank Him again and again for His help, His protection and His kindness? “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever” (Psalm 107:1).

Today’s reading: 2 Kings 4:17-31 · John 18:1-11

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
