From where do we draw new strength?

My God shall be My strength.
Isaiah 49:5

From where do we draw new strength?
Today’s Bible verse instructs and encourages us. First, let us remember that all who trust in their own strength will be disappointed in the end:

Kings went into battle trusting in their own power and suffered a resounding defeat (Isaiah 10:12–16).
Merchants who relied on their prowess suffered the ruin of their business (Isaiah 23:1–14).
Even if we rely on other people, we will experience disappointment. When the Israelites sought refuge in Egypt, they had to experience that this nation refused to help them (Isaiah 30:1–7).

In contrast, when we trust in God, we receive a strength that develops out of our weakness: “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength” (Isaiah 40:29).

The statement in today’s verse is a prophetic word about Christ, the perfect Servant of God. Although He experienced opposition and rejection in His ministry, He didn’t give up. Instead, He drew new strength from God to continue to work in grace. In this He is our example. When we experience indifference and opposition in serving the Lord, we quickly lose heart. Instead of throwing in the towel, let us learn from the Lord Jesus to put our trust in God so we can carry on in His strength.

Today’s reading: 2 Kings 3:1-15 · John 17:1-8

GOD HAS A SUBSTITUTE

One thing we need to learn in today's reading is that God always has a substitute. If God says He wants you, rejoice! However, be careful, because even as He is choosing you, He has already prepared a substitute.
