Faith and life

He who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
John 5:24

Faith and life
Today’s Bible verse first shows what a person must do to be saved. The Lord Jesus says: “He who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me ...” Everyone is addressed because all can be saved. On the one hand, it requires a willingness to listen to what the Son of God says. On the other hand, it requires believing in God who sent His Son to earth as Saviour. The path to eternal salvation is that simple! It only requires simple faith in God and His Word.

Whoever takes this path will be richly blessed. In today’s verse, the Lord Jesus describes what the person who hears and believes receives:

1. The believer has eternal life! This is a happy life in relationship with God that begins here and continues in heaven. This life is of unlimited duration and of the best quality.
2. The redeemed does not come into judgment! Because he has forgiveness of sins and God has justified him, he is freed from any judicial condemnation. He no longer needs to fear God, for He will never be his judge.
3. The believer has passed from death into life! He has left the realm of death and entered the realm of life. He no longer belongs to the world where sin and death reign, but to the family of God where obedience and brotherly love are operative.

Today’s reading: 1 Kings 7:38-51 · John 6:36-46
