Wisdom, Knowledge, and Faith

There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all.
1 Corinthians 12:4, 7

Wisdom, Knowledge, and Faith
These manifestations of the Spirit at Corinth were "given to each one for the profit of all." He didn't give everything to one man; the gifts were given to each one, and many of these gifts are mentioned in verses 8 to 19. "For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit." This is the ability to know what to do in difficult or troubling circumstances. I like a simple definition that I read, which says, "Wisdom is knowing what to do with what you know." It is making proper use of our knowledge.

"To another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit." This could be called spiritual intelligence in the truths that God has revealed. There were men of Issachar "which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do" . "Understanding of the times" is knowledge, and knowing "what Israel ought to do" is wisdom. We surely need some men of Issachar today!

In verse 9 there is "faith." This is not the faith that believes in the Lord Jesus for salvation. All believers have that faith. This is a special energy that is able to overcome difficulties and problems. You may have heard of George Müller, who was concerned about the needs of orphans, of which there were many. He didn't have any personal means, yet he built a total of five orphanages with accommodations for 2050 orphans and the staff of helpers. He made a rule for himself that, apart from making known the existence of the institution, he would never apply in any way to man for help. The Lord never failed to meet the needs, though at times the funds were very low. That was remarkable faith.

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
