The World After the Flood—Who Holds the Reins?

I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks and judges.

You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above.

John 8:50 NKJV; John 19:11 NKJV

The World After the Flood—Who Holds the Reins?
After God had judged the world through the flood, He made a new start with Noah and his family. But again, the people failed. Instead of obeying their Creator, trusting that He only wanted the best for them, they tried to reach heaven by their own efforts at the Tower of Babel. Their pride even led them so far that they wanted to make a name for themselves and control the population of the earth independently of God (see Gen. 11).

Is this not typical for our time too? People strive to maintain control themselves rather than handing it over to God. What is the situation in your life?

What was Jesus’ attitude when He lived here on earth? Among His disciples, He was the Servant who washed their feet (Jn. 13:3–12; cf. Lk. 22:27). He did not seek His own glory here, but sought the glory of the One who had sent Him (Jn. 8:50). Instead of wanting to control everything Himself, He gave the guidance of His life to the Spirit of God and made Himself dependent on what His Father communicated to Him. Resting in the knowledge that God holds the reins, He said to Pilate, “You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above.”

-- Philip Svetlik

When He in flesh the desert passed,

He loved to do Thy will;
His food it was, through to the last,

Thy pleasure to fulfill.

He glorified Thee on the earth:

Thy work by Him was done;

And Thou, who knewest all His worth,

Didst glorify Thy Son.

Behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their...More

TOTAL COMPLIANCE REQUIRED

When we teach about tithes and first fruits, some people think that it is the pastor's way of making money but they are making a great mistake. When you put God first, He will make sure that your blessings are irreversible. But if you decide to give Him second place in your life, you may not be happy to see what...More

FACING OUR PAST

READ:
.
Like Paul,we don't need to parade our failures or to pretend they didn't happen. Instead, we can thank the Lord that through His grace and power, our past is forgiven, our presence is changed, and our future is bright with hope for all he has prepared for us. - David...More
