Esther (10)—Right Recompense for Evil

Now Harbonah, one of the eunuchs, said to the king, “Look! The gallows, fifty cubits high, which Haman made for Mordecai, who spoke good on the king’s behalf, is standing at the house of Haman.” Then the king said, “Hang him on it!” So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath subsided.

Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him.

Esther 7:9–10 NKJV; Proverbs 26:27 NKJV

Esther (10)—Right Recompense for Evil
God is just. Good and evil will both have their just recompense from God. The day is coming soon when we who have believed on the Lord shall stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ to receive from Him a crown of righteousness for all that we have done to please Him. Just over a thousand years later all unbelievers will stand before the Great White Throne to receive their reward for their sins, especially the sin of rejecting the only Savior.

King Ahasuerus and Haman had dined with Queen Esther. The King had again asked Esther what her petition and request were. She had petitioned for her life and made request for her people. In response to the king’s query of who had dared to presume to destroy them, she had answered, “The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman!”

What a shock! The king had arisen in wrath and stepped into the garden. Coming back in, he found Haman fallen across the couch where Esther was, pleading for his life. This sight angered the king even more. When he was told of the gallows Haman had made for Mordecai, he ordered Haman to be hanged on it. This was done at once. Justice thus was done, just as God’s Word had predicted.

God’s Word clearly states, “The soul who sins shall die” (Ezek. 18:20), but also “that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us,” and that “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Rom. 5:8; 10:13). Do this now before it is too late!

One outstanding need that divine midwives must satisfy is to have their names written in the Book of Life. This is the most important book in the universe. Given modern trends and need for details, most institutions have various books in which records are kept and can be retrieved in years to come. Every...More
