A Spiritual Dilemma

Bible in a Year : 1 Samuel 1-3, Luke 8:26-56

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise.
Psalm 145:3

Today's Scripture & Insight : Psalm 145:1-8

The average person checks his or her phone 150 times a day. Let that sink in a minute. Our phones have our attention—sometimes for our good, but sometimes not. Tristan Harris has concerns about this. He’s one of the voices in a film that features some of the top names in technology, people who ushered us into the world of social media. But instead of praise, their voices are sounding an alarm, calling our reality (and the film) The Social Dilemma. “We’re the product. Our attention is the product being sold to advertisers.” We give our attention to what we believe is valuable or worthy. And in a very real sense, what we give our attention to we can find ourselves worshipping.

That word dilemma indicates a situation where a choice has to be made. Believe it or not, we face such a dilemma in our spiritual lives, a choice we have to make daily: Who or what will I give my attention to? In other words, Who or what will I worship? The psalmist clearly made his choice: “Every day I will praise you [God] and extol your name for ever and ever” (Psalm 145:2). The verse that follows gives his rationale: “Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom” (v. 3).

The psalmist believed nothing compares to God’s greatness, and so he focused his attention there. God and God alone is worthy of our praise.

By: John Blase

Reflect & Pray
In contrast to time for praying or reading Scripture, what vies for your attention? What would help you keep your desire on God?

God, You alone are worthy of my praise. Nothing compares to You.

ANY QUERY FROM SATAN?

A divine midwife must be in control of his or her choices and ensure that they are God-centred and not self-centred. They must be ready to take decisions even when it hurts them. They must also be prepared to respond to Satans...More

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
(2 Peter 3:18)

God in His grace has centered every blessing for us in Christ. Without Christ, we have nothing, nothing but our sins; with Christ we have all things, and therefore want nothing in addition to Christ. As...More

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
