Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Matthew 16:16

Who is Jesus Christ?
People give various answers to this question like “He was the founder of a religion” or “He was a man who set us an example of good living”.

The final, authoritative answer is to be found in the Bible, where we learn of many people who came into contact with Jesus Christ and expressed their conviction as to His Person.

Nicodemus, a high ranking Pharisee, came to Him by night. Although the Lord was not one of the religious elite in Israel, Nicodemus had to acknowledge: “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no-one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him (John 3:2).

The woman at Jacob’s well noticed during her conversation with Jesus that He knew all about her life. Her conclusion was: “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet” (John 4:19).

The inhabitants of Sychar were avoided by the proud Jews, because they were Samaritans. The Lord Jesus acted differently, however. He stayed with them for two days and preached the Word of God. Then they knew that “this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world” (John 4:42).

When Jesus was being accused before the Roman governor Pilate, the judge publicly proclaimed His innocence. Three times he declared, “I find no fault in him” (John 18:38; 19:4.6).

These testimonies show clearly that Jesus Christ was no ordinary man like us. He is the Son of God and the Saviour of the world. That imposes on us the duty to listen to Him and believe in Him.
