Your Hairs Are Numbered

Your Hairs Are Numbered

But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Matthew 10:30
This scripture was almost repeated verbatim in Luke 12:7. This shows it is no joke or mistake. Indeed, the very hairs on our hairs are all numbered as stated by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Why did the Lord go all the way to make this statement? I think it goes to show how much the Lord has interest in us and all that concerns us. What can be more detailed than counting the number of hairs on a human’s head? I doubt there is any man-made machine that can accurately perform that task. It also goes to show God’s programming and mathematical supremacy and accuracy because it means that whenever we go to barb or make our hair, the Lord’s program is automatically recalculating how much hair we have left on our head even while the hair is being shaved. Now that’s a wonder!
The Lord wants us to know that He cares about us. He is interested in every aspect of our lives. What we do, what we say, what we eat, what we wear, where we go, how we walk, where we live, where we work etc. It is common to hear people say ‘Don’t bring God into this’ when discussing about some issues. That is wrong! God is interested in everything and He can be brought into anything. There lies a great advantage in bringing God into every issue. By so doing, you will be guided in decision-making, you will avoid making mistakes and even falling into sin.
The Lord wants His children to always look up to Him for any and everything. This doesn’t mean we should become dullards or turn the Lord into our errand boy. No. What it means is that the Lord wants us to trust Him for everything no matter how sure or not we are of getting it. This was what Apostle James had in mind in James 4:13-14 when he spoke of people who drew out lofty plans for the future without giving God due regard or reference. He went further to admonish us on how we should make such statements in James 4:15 which gives God the due regard. From what I can deduce from James 4:13-15, the Lord is interested in us informing him of our plans and decisions even if you don’t have the patience or spiritual wherewithal to get an express permission or direction from Him. By merely saying words like ‘if Jesus tarries’, ‘by God’s grace’, ‘if the Lord will’ etc while we make plans or take decisions, we engage the Lord’s attention and give Him the reference due to Him. And He’ll surely guide us and see us through. You can be sure that if your plan did not work out, then the Lord must be behind it and He has a reason for so doing which will be in your interest in the short or long run.
I want to believe the Lord may be withholding His blessings especially financial blessings from those who really are His’. The reason is that He doesn’t want them to become independent of Him. He is ‘afraid’ of losing the fellowship He is currently enjoying with them. After all, He knows the end from the beginning. Many people are close to God today for sustenance, protection, divine health etc not really because they love Him or desire to make Heaven. In the event that they become so financially independent and successful that they can afford the best of everything – food, healthcare, human protection (bullet-proof vehicles, escorts, bodyguards etc), will they still be close to Him? Will they still look up to Him? Will they still pray those basic prayers they used to pray when they were just managing? Will they still give Him due reverence? Let us ponder on these things. We must take time to reassure God in our hearts that no matter how comfortable we get, we will not relegate Him to the background in any aspect of our lives. If you really are a child of God, you can be sure the Lord always wants to hear from you. That’s why Apostle Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 that we should pray without ceasing.
