About Wet Dreams And Other Human Wastes

“If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of uncleanness that chanceth him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp: But it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall wash himself with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again. Thou shalt have a place also without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad: And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee: For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thine enemies before thee; therefore shall thy camp be holy: that he see no unclean thing in thee, and turn away from thee.”
Deuteronomy 23:10-14

Our LORD God is holy through and through. He hates iniquity and doesn’t like to behold, hear or perceive it. God created all things. Yet, He is careful not to come into contact with anything that can stain His holiness. The LORD’s holiness can be imagined as being sparkling white. Hence, anything that can stain it, He avoids. A number of things can attempt to stain the LORD’s holiness since the LORD will never allow anything to stain Him. The LORD doesn’t like to behold iniquity. If we as human beings can be put off or offended or embarrassed by the sight of human faeces, catarrh, menses, sperm, human nakedness (especially of the opposite sex), how much more our LORD God who created us in His own image to be like Him? In the passage above, the LORD teaches the Israelites how to keep themselves and their camp holy at all times so that He doesn’t turn away from them in order to avoid seeing any unclean thing. First, the LORD talks about wet dreams and refers to it as something that chances a man at night. Beforehand, many of us Christians have come to demonise wet dreams as sinful and diabolical. From the LORD’s statement in Deuteronomy 23:10, this is not so. Rather, wet dreams is a purely natural event created by God and is beyond the control of any man. I believe wet dreams was created by God to comfort men who are chaste while still single or who have decided to remain chaste all their lives. By nature, a man will begin to experience sexual urges beginning from a certain age. These urges are natural and are beyond his control. Nevertheless, as a born again Christian, he is not allowed to satisfy those urges except by getting married. However, not everyone who experiences sexual urges is ready to get married as we are not supposed to get married solely for the purpose of satisfying sexual urges. Trying to satisfy sexual urges by any other means aside getting married is sinful and can land one in hell. Fornication, masturbation, pornography, lustful thoughts and imaginations and other immoral acts are options that do not exist for a heaven-bound born-again Christian when it comes to satisfying sexual urges. It is noteworthy that no amount of physical and spiritual activity can stop any normal human being from having sexual urges. If it were so, pastors and other men of God wouldn’t have to get married. Only sex/sexual activity can satisfy sexual urges. Hence, for a single born-again Christian brother at the mercy of sexual urges while waiting for the right time to get married, the LORD will allow him to experience wet dreams occasionally to satisfy his sexual urges. When this happens, the brother will be relieved of his sexual urges for some time. This is the only means by which a chaste fellow can have his sexual urges satisfied without committing sin. Please note that naturally occurring wet dreams are those which are by no means brought about by any sinful/lustful thought process before going to bed. Any wet dream occasioned by lustful thoughts and imaginations is dangerous and diabolical and must be vehemently prayed against when it happens and should by all means be avoided by all costs. Such can lead to the emergence of spirit spouses and other demonic oppressions.

But then, this purely natural event created by the LORD was capable of making one unclean in Bible times. This was why the LORD gave instructions as to how anyone who experienced a wet dream can cleanse himself and become clean again. This buttresses the point made by the our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in Mark 7:20 that it is what comes out of a man that defiles a man and not what goes into him. Second, the LORD also spoke about human wastes such as excrement in Deuteronomy 23:12. He instructed that the Israelites should have a place outside the camp i.e. a toilet where they should go whenever they felt like easing themselves. Not only that, they were to go with a paddle (hoe) with which they should dig the ground and cover it up when they were done with toileting. Anything short of that will bring the LORD close to seeing an unclean thing that could make Him turn away from them which can have consequences. Well, we can say the biblical concept of being physically clean or unclean as a basis for fellowshipping with God does not apply in modern day Christianity as our LORD Jesus has laid more emphasis on the state of our heart rather than our physical appearance and piety. True. But our LORD God’s standard on our physical appearance and environment either when we come into His presence or invite His presence has not and will never change. We are to ensure that there is nothing in us that can make us unclean, irritate Him or appear to Him as iniquity. We should endeavour to take personal hygiene seriously and ensure our environment is always clean. Otherwise, prayers may not be answered. Indeed, cleanliness is next to Godliness. May God help us all in this regard. Amen.
