The one who comes to me I will by no means cast out.
John 6:37

Will God receive me?
This is a question that occupies particularly those people who are conscious of their guilt of sin. It may arise from the fact that a very grave sin of a kind that disgusts most people burdens their conscience. There are, however, people who lead an upright and even religious life, who have read the Word of God and prayed, yet they are plagued by a feeling of guilt. They know that God offers mankind His grace in Christ, but do not dare to claim it for themselves personally.

We should like to assure such insecure people that however great their guilt of sin is, it is no hindrance to their being accepted by the Lord.. “Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more” (Romans 5:20).

Christ died for our sins. Now all can be pardoned without exception. Whoever turns from sin and comes to Him in faith obtains full forgiveness. Christ Himself said that He would reject nobody.

No-one should imagine that he needs to improve himself so as to become “worthy” of acceptance. That proves impossible! So everyone must come to Christ, just as he is.

When anyone “believes on him who justifies the ungodly”, having given up relying on his own achievements, “his faith is accounted for righteousness” (Romans 4:5). This means that we are not pronounced free from our sins through our own good works but through faith in God and the Saviour Jesus Christ.

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 39:1-18 · Romans 9:1-13
