The Good Seed - Tuesday, May 5, 2020

Jesus said, … I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
John 10:7.10

A boy had heard the gospel message, the good news of the Saviour, Jesus Christ. He sensed that the message was the truth, that he, even in his young years, had no standing before God owing to his sins. But how urgent was the matter? How soon must he be converted?

He asked the preacher at what age one should be converted. “At least one hour before dying,” was the brief but thought-provoking reply. For a moment the boy stood there thinking, then he said, “That means, I must be converted at once!” He had drawn the only sensible conclusion and acted accordingly.

Clearly, no-one knows when his last hour has come, nor whether he will then have the chance to put things in order with God. So when God calls, we must obey His warning voice. We cannot keep Him waiting until it suits us.

Someone might ask, however, if a youth is converted and decides to live according to the Bible, doesn’t he forgo the best time of his life? He may undoubtedly miss some thrilling experiences that are often so attractive. Such experiences in a life lived apart from God and in sinful pleasures, however, always leave a nasty aftertaste, or even feelings of guilt and involvement. A young Christian can forgo such things; he realises that whoever wishes to “live life to the full” will not find true joy in that way. A believer has found Christ and through Him a worthwhile life of fulfilment in abundance in which he misses nothing.

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 36:16-32 · Romans 8:12-17
