The Good Seed - Monday, April 20, 2020
by GBV Dillenburg GmbH

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit. You heard the voice of my supplications when I cried out to you.
Psalm 34:18; 31:22

Are you downcast?
Difficult times constantly crop up in our life: family problems, worries about the children, stress at work, or even unemployment and other burdens. How do we react when inner unrest gnaws at us, and our mental energy is exhausted?

There is a simple antidote that can strengthen us without any side-effects. Countless believers have tried it out and can recommend it. We mean reading the Bible, especially the psalms.

The psalms describe the experiences of believers who lived long before the birth of Jesus. In this book of the Bible we also find prophetic statements about the future. And we discover that the situations are very topical. They are the experiences of people who suffered all kinds of difficulties.

We find that other people before us have borne the same suffering, sensed the same pain and discouragement, yet they did not despair. They relate how God strengthened and comforted them, helped them along and relieved them. We do not feel criticised or misunderstood, but find sympathy. By means of these age-old experiences God gives us courage and consolation. He reveals Himself as being close to us in our problems and ready to help us. He wants us to open our hearts to Him, so that He can do so.

“Why are you cast down, o my soul? And why are you disquieted within me”

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 42:5; 46:2).

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 27:12-22 · Romans 3:9-20
