But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.
Psalm 86:15

David spent all his free time tending and polishing his motor-bike; it was his pride and glory. The way he drove it became more and more professional. One day a big car followed him that he could not keep at a distance. Finally, David stopped, and the car driver, too.
“You keep control of your machine very easily,” said the stranger admiringly. “It’s a real joy to follow you! You are just the man I’m looking for to take part in races for the make I represent.” David already imagined exciting contests, success and good fortune ahead. That was the start of his passion for motor-bike racing.
Later on, cars replaced motor-bikes. David was taken on for international rally-driving. He practised every Sunday to be fit for competitions.
“One Sunday, I drove for nineteen hours non-stop,” he reported later. “I fell asleep at the wheel. And they pulled me out of the heap of scrap. In hospital, the only thing I had to read was a New Testament. It was a present from my aunt that I had never opened, but out of affection for her had always kept it in my pocket. When I opened it, the first thing I was: What is your life? It is even a vapour that appears for a little time, then vanishes away (James 4:14)”.
“A fleeting vapour! Indeed, I had escaped death by the skin of my teeth! God had spoken emphatically to me. All of a sudden, I became conscious of my delusions of fame, but also of God’s mercy!”
That day David found peace with God and a new outlook for his life.
