For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Hebrews 6:4-6

One salvation - and no other!
Today's verse concerns primarily Jews who had turned to Christianity. They appeared to have grasped the fact that Jesus is the Messiah and that they could only be saved on the basis of His death on the cross and the blood that flowed there. Yet after a time, they turned away from their conviction back to Judaism. In doing so they assented to the action of their compatriots who had crucified the Lord Jesus as a blasphemer. What would happen to such people? For them there was no salvation.
Nowadays many people who have grown up in Christian countries and to a greater or lesser degree have enjoyed a Christian upbringing are turning to religions of the Far East or to Islam. They hope to find peace and satisfaction in them.
Now our almighty and eternal God makes it absolutely clear in His Word that there is no other means of salvation than the work of redemption accomplished by Jesus Christ on Calvary's cross. If anyone rejects the blood of the Lord Jesus as being ineffective, there is no possibility of salvation for him or her. Such a person emphatically denies the very basis of salvation. Acts 4:12 states distinctly: "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." So there is only one way of salvation: the acceptance of the teaching of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Today's reading: Titus 2
